May lifestyle inspiration

I am so excited it’s May!  It finally feels like Spring.  Mother’s Day is around the corner, which means I get to be celebrated.  This only happens twice a year – on my birthday and on Mother’s Day.  I’m not complaining, but I am going to revel in the moment when it comes.  There is a lot happening in May and this synopsis of inspiration is what will keep me happy!  Stay tuned for great gift ideas, May Lust List, beauty favorites, summer shoes and outdoor living.  Also, I am partnering with Scout and Molly’s for a fun summer themed cocktail party. Who doesn’t love a good rendezvous?!

What are you in the mood for this month?  I’d love to hear your thoughts, so don’t forget to leave me a comment below.

STYLE:

Have you see seen Aerin Lauder’s home accents?   I recently visited the home of One King’s Lane president Debbie Propst here in New Canaan.  It was, to say the least, a beautiful interpretation of their on-line boutique.  There were many things to fall in love with, yet what caught my eye were these sconces in the breakfast area which I later found out were Aerin Lauder.  I had no idea she also did lighting.  I’m sold!  Her laid-back elegance is chic and effortless and vividly translates into her home brand.  I personally can’t wait to add her lighting to our home.  Check out more of her stylish decor here

DESIGN:

The New Canaan Home Tour is this month on May 18th!  My girlfriends and I are going if only to gather inspiration and dream vicariously through someone else’s design.  Also, since we are planning to remodel our home, I will not miss this opportunity. You can buy your tickets through this link

WATCH:

On the rare occasion that Lex and I have time to watch TV, we have found Schitt’s Creek to be a hilarious.  The episodes are a short 30 minutes unless you binge-watch, which is what we ended up doing.  Already in its third season, the show is a witty and brilliantly written satire staring Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara who suddenly loose their fortune.  It is a must watch for anyone who loves a good parody. It reminds me a bit of Odd Mom Out.  Watch the trailer of season 1 or dive into on Amazon.

LISTEN:

When my sonos are not being hijacked by my kids, I enjoy listening to my music.  Often times, I jam out while I cook because I really enjoy it, but also because I am one of those people that cannot talk and cook at the the same time.  I need music too focus and I distinctly remember studying for exams while softly listen to Bob Marley.  Recently, I listened to the soundtrack of Big Little Lies I fell in love with it.  I love a good compilation and Jean-Marc Vallée, the director of Big Little Lies also produced the music. Instead of commissioning the score, he used existing songs to create mood, drive narrative and reveal the characters in the show.  If you followed the series, you know exactly what that meant.  But you can still appreciate the playlist.

READ:

With the ongoing support women have been giving each other recently, I thought I’d share a new favorite coffee table book that highlights feminism and femininity both at the same time.  It is truly an inspirational read with exceptional photography and reminds us women of how amazing a human we are.  To order a copy of In the Company of Women, click here.  Makes for a great Mother’s Day present too!

DRINK:

If you knew me, you’d know I love a good margarita.  Every year, Lex comes up with a few summer cocktails to serve on the weekends or at parties.  I, of course, never dissuade him and usually enjoy every single drop.  He wanted something light and crisp with a pop of color.  Enter the Mojito!  I’m usually a tequila lover, but a good Cuban rum is always a nice variation.  Recipe here

SHOP:

I have seen a lot of blue, white and STRIPES this season.  Remember in April I mentioned designers decided to have a free-for-all?  It’s happening.  This is good news, because honestly anything you will buy or wear is going to be on trend.  Stripes are the easiest print to add to your wardrobe….it literally goes with anything.  Billowy shapes and ruffled edges are making a big impact, as well as frayed denim and shoes.  Basket bags are a sweet adition and gives the whole look a very Dolce Vita feel.
