I feel like this could be a tagline for a political party: “Raus – Coffee for Humanity“.  If coffee could bring us together, the world would be drinking Raus everyday.  If it were only that simple.  I guess nothing is out of the realm of possibilities these days, but this post is not about politics.  This post is about a delicious bottled espresso, conveniently named after its founder Donny Raus.  This cold espresso, (aka The Cold Roman) comes pre-bottled and ready to serve.   Not to be confused with a cold brewed espresso, this unique blend is fresh brewed.  Think of this as dessert: sweet and aromatic, without all the calories.

I like to prepare it as the recipe on the bottle suggests, which is to add frothed milk to a couple of ounces of Cold Roman.  I substitute with Califa Betterhalf (coconut and almond creamer) only because I am dairy intolerant. Yeah, I know, I miss cheese…a lot!  But it’s better for my digestive issues.  I buy Califa from Whole Foods and I swear it’s the next best thing to coffee creamer.  The result is a delicious concoction that is smooth and gives me that much needed afternoon pep.  The great thing is that Donny has endless recipes and some include alcohol.  I’m thinking of the Cold Roman Classic Martini next, although it may be tough to blog about that, after I drink a couple.  Need I say more?

Raus is currently taking orders via email and Donny ships anywhere in the country.  He’s in the process of setting up the on-line store, but if you’re in New Canaan, check him out at the Farmers Market on Saturdays.  He also sells to retail stores, such as  Walter Stewart, Palmer’s Gourmet Market in Darien and Fleisher’s Craft Butchers in NYC.
