Happy Labor Day Y’all!!
If you are like most Americans, Labor Day is a coveted holiday. It’s the unofficial start of Fall. A reason to squeeze in one last BBQ and keeping the pool heated for another week just so the kids can enjoy their last few precious and unsupervised free time. It’s our excuse to have one last summer party!
I thought I’d share some great and traditional things we do for this holiday. What to wear? What to cook? How to decorate? How to make it easy and fuss free?
Well, if you’re hosting, I would start with making it easy for yourself and have your friends and family pitch in on the menu. Ask them to bring sides, drinks, or desert. You’d be surprised, but people like to share their recipes.
Plus this gives you more time for yourself…you have to look and feel gorgeous without trying too much. And have your husband or significant other help with the fun decorating ideas.
Check it out and share your thoughts.
Ann’s Kitchen summer peach salad Ann Campbell is a friend of mine, who I happen to think was born to create fabulous and delicious food. She was a stay home mom, loved to cook, went to culinary school in NYC and began cooking for a small clientele in Westport. I have been lucky enough to have tried several of her dishes and I have yet to be disappointed. Take advantage of the New Canaan Farmer’s Market and get yourself some fresh peaches….they’re in season now. The market opens on Saturdays from 10am-2pm. In fact buy all your fresh ingredients from there. Here is the recipe…courtesy of Ann’s Kitchen. 2 lbs yellow peach, peeled and cut in wedges 2 lbs red vine tomato, deseeded and cut in wedges 2 cups baby arugula red onion, cut in rings (optional) ½ cup toasted hazel nut, cracked ½ crumbled gorgonzola cheese 1 table spoon lime juice 1 table spoon lemon juice 1 table spoon extra virgin olive oil salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Combine peaches, tomatoes, arugula just before you serve. Mix dressing and dress lightly sprinkle with toasted hazel nut, red onions and gorgonzola cheese. Add salt and pepper to taste.
You can’t go wrong with Guacamole and chips, but trust me this version with the peas is to die for!! A fun approach on the grilled corn is to add a pesto sauce to it. And the Asian mini pulled pork buns are out of this world! Thanks Ann for the lovely suggestions.
Now, what to wear….
This is such a feminine and sexy outfit. Love the pop of red, especially considering that soon you’ll be wearing fur and cashmere. And the dress is on sale at Intermix. Maybe you want to take one last dip so bring your bathing suit along…this one from Mara Hoffman. Love the neutral gladiator sandals…you can find them at Walin and Wolff (walinandwolff.com).
Maybe you want to be more casual but still want to look chic. This is a perfect outfit! It’s easy, but super cool. Love the Stella McCartney bi-color shirt…it can carry you into Fall easily. The cut-off denim shorts are Jcrew and the sneakers are Adidas with Gold toes…so crazy about them.
Let’s give them something to talk about!!! Keep the conversation going with inspirational decor and cool cocktails.
Courtesy of Chive Events…my cousin who is a phenomenal decorator and chef. A true inspiration. Love you Jen Friedson!
I wish you all a fabulous and fun filled holiday!!!
